Climate change is a significant challenge for Tanzania’s ecosystems, and the communities living within these ecosystems. These communities have already been impacted by severe weather events such as prolonged droughts that caused major livestock losses, increased food insecurity and internal displacement as community members move to urban areas seeking employment opportunities.
Rural and remote communities lack access to climate change information in local languages, have limited skills to address climate change impacts (e.g. disaster preparedness and emergency response) and don’t have the resources to implement climate smart solutions (e.g. continued reliance on charcoal for cooking and heating due to the unaffordability and unavailability of other energy sources in remote communities).
